MARYVILLE, Tenn.— Blount County Schools (BCS) is proud to announce that students from William Blount High School claimed the overall gold at the inaugural Job Olympics. Hosted at Pellissippi State Community College’s Blount County Campus, the event served as a high-energy "medal-winning experience" where students practiced real-world job tasks in a supportive, low-pressure environment.

The Job Olympics challenged students to demonstrate excellence in several real-world categories, including Clerical work, Custodial services, Bagging Groceries, and Laundry. Participants arrived "dressed for success" and presented resumes to judges, treating each event with the professional gravity of a mock interview.

Jessica Spafford, Transition Case Manager for Loudon County Schools, highlighted the long-term impact of the competition. "Everything we do within the educational system ultimately ties back to transition, as it is the end product of education," said Spafford. "Job Olympics brings this mission to life by intentionally supporting student growth in employability, independence, and self-confidence".

Jennifer Carpenter, BCS Vocational Transition Case Manager, expressed immense pride in the students' performance. "The students were extremely serious in each of their events," Carpenter noted. "They performed at the best of their ability, and most importantly, they had fun and cheered each other on".

Beyond the competition, the event serves as a vital bridge to the community, connecting students directly with local businesses and professionals who serve as judges and mentors. This interaction offers real-world feedback and networking opportunities designed to break down barriers and create pathways to a more inclusive workforce.

The success of the inaugural event was made possible through the support of community sponsors, including Chick-fil-A, Pellissippi Community College, the Loudon Family Resource Center, and Loudon Coordinated School Health. Plans are already underway to expand the Job Olympics next year to include all Blount County high schools.

This initiative aligns with the Blount County Schools mission of graduating students equipped to achieve excellence. For more information on student transition programs and inclusive employment pathways, visit www.blountk12.org.
